Crazy taxi is a classic arcade style game developed by a company called Hitmaker. The game was originally released as a racing cabinet package with Sega Naomi hardware & offered to gamers as a sit down & race machine although an upright version was later released. Over the next few years, the game was modified to run on various console types such as the Dreamcast, GameCube, PlayStation 2 and of course also on PC – Microsoft Windows. On June 10, 2010, Sega made the announcement many hardcore Crazy Taxi fans had been waiting for that Crazy taxi game would become available on the PlayStation Gaming Network and Xbox Live Arcade by the Fall of 2010. In October 2010 Crazy Taxi was modified to feature full wide screen support. The PlayStation Network compatible version was released November 23, 2010 & the one for the Xbox Live Arcade was released the following day.

Crazy Taxi was one of the first true arcade games that displayed a major breakaway from stringent time restriction on other SEGA titles and rewarded players with extended playing times if they performed well. In addition to providing a game that could be played in short sessions, Kanno wanted a game to explore the “daily life and routine” of a taxi driver.  With the migration of Crazy Taxi from game centers to homes the developers made quite few change for the dreamcast version which included a larger map in addition to the classic arcade one, so as to create a feeling of being lost and to encourage home console players to have fun to explore the town more. Side-games were developed for this version as well so as to cater to obsessive completionists . These mini games offered challenges that were both fun and educational.

Crazy Taxi is also famous for its soundtrack featuring songs from world class bands Bad Religion and The Offspring. These two bands provided all of the tracks for the arcade, Dreamcast, PlayStation 2 and GameCube versions. The PC featured an entirely new soundtrack, omitting the original bands in favor of music from Pivit, Too Rude, and Total Chaos.
